They are called “elastomeric” because they are slightly elastic. This is more important than it may sound. It means that the coating – also called a membrane – stretches in hot summer sun, and then goes back to its original size as the night air cools. Elastomers eliminate the cracking and buckling that can occur on most flat roofs, especially in asphalt roofing and rubber or plastic roof materials. The potential for leaks is eradicated. This is why many manufacturers offer 10 year leak-free warranties. Elastomeric coatings turn a leaky roof into one that is weather proof.

You have found an economical solution for flat or low slope roofs made of modified bitumen; BUR; EPDM rubber; PVC: metal; and cement. They are perfect for commercial, industrial, and institutional structures. Coatings are liquid when applied, and then the acrylic dries to fabricate a uniform membrane that is seamless. A key thing to remember is that you are prolonging the life of your existing roof with elastomeric coatings.
  • The more you learn about the energy savings of roof coatings, the more you will want one installed on your building. There are major electricity cost savings to take the strain off of any budget.

Building owners and managers report that they are saving an average of 20 cents of every dollar they used to spend on air-conditioning. Elastomeric coatings are white, making them reflective. This means that solar rays bounce off. While your current dark roof absorbs heat and transfers it to the interior of your building, white is cooler, and so the demand for A/C inside your building is reduced. Another bonus is that your HVAC will not have to work as hard; it will last longer with fewer repairs required. Your dark roof is making your air conditioning work harder and it wears out faster. White elastomeric coatings reflect 85% to 90% of solar rays. They have the ENERGY STAR® and LEED Green Building certifications.

When we provide a free, on-site roof survey and estimate, ask us about the difference in price between a coating and a replacement roof. We can calculate the difference between tearing off and building a new roof, or restoring and coating your existing roof. You will appreciate the difference in costs. Elastomeric coatings are sprayed on top of your existing roof, as long as it is structurally in good shape. Tear off is the big expense of replacing a roof. Because there is no tear off required, this makes a coating more than competitively cost effective. The average price is half of what you would have to pay for a new roof. Schedule your free estimate and get an individualized demonstration of the superior savings you can see.

Other benefits: An acrylic polymer roof does not add weight to your building and so the structural integrity is not impacted. Elastomers withstand strong winds because they adhere so well to the surfaces they are designed to coat. They will resist picking up dust and industrial particulate.
